Your just in the wrong part of Canada. Lowest was like -12 with a wind chill, and that was only for a couple days. It didnt even snow more then 2 days this winter and we're holding the damn winter olympics lol.

Is it something I'm missing or will hunters actually spend this type of money to replace there whole spreads??? I mean the decoys are nice but the price is outrageous. It works for those that only need maybe 2 dozen or so. For guys that hunt refuge, migrators. There's no way you could afford to replace 10-20 dozen with using just a dozen or two of these. I think the makers missed the price mark with hunters throughout the country that can afford little in times of a recession. Once again nothing against the decoy just feel the price is unreasonable for the buyer looking to get a solid decoy at a affortable price.

,...
Ive heard of a few fellows who are going to do just that to have the new material.
With that said I know guys that get new trucks each modle out. While many of us cant or wont. But how imparactical would it be to "replace" Is it much different than a new set of clubs,.. sell the older and used and another grand and you have your "new " spread ( small) I see fellows dump money into trucks, for tires and rims, to me that is crazy. My nephew spends about $10,000 a year to play softball,.. My BIL spent $40,000 on a boat for his adult boys to board behind ,.Then some of you are nuts enough to take your wife to Hawaii or worse yet a girlfriend. Heck its one trip to Canada,.. or a 1/2 a non-hunting trip to Alaska
Its all in what you want not always the price

SALTHUNTER:
I hear your points but think it's a bit different in replacing say 10dz goose full bodies then buying a new set of golf clubs espically at the price these our being offered. For those that take vacations, buy new trucks each year, or etc the price could be $1000 per dozen and not matter since they can afford it. Here's my thoughts. I have nothing against DS and think his decoys are amazing. The problem I see being from the midwest is that because of the price no one can afford to hunt over them. I can personally say with knowing a large portion of waterfowl hunters in the midwest region that not a single person I know hunts over these decoys. It's def. not there not a good decoy but it's the price. I just think you look at GREENHEAD gear or other companies and what they've done to help the "general hunter" who is able to spend a fair amount of money and get a high quality decoy makes more sense with price then to make the best decoy and not have most hunters able to afford them at all. I just wish the price was better as it would be nice to hunt over some of these new ACE DS decoys since no one else around here has any and it would probably improve my hunt.

I don't plan on selling any of my old style Smiths, but I sure am going to start buying the new ones to add to what I've got. I'll just make sure to keep the old ones in areas of the spread they will be least likely shot. All the ACE decoys will be front and center in the line of fire.

I agree I couldnt afford to replace 10 dozen,.. But I dont plam to ever deal with a 10 dozen spread for my hunts I generally hunt with less than 2 dozen.
But I can tell ya, the guys I know that are smokers certianly could afford them. I sold a bunch of gear and replaced my spread with DSD,.. My circumstance may be different,, But like most decoys there are sales,.. I bought a dozen Honkers at $600, $70 shipping then one four pack at $219, another 4 pack at $229 This last 4 pack at $279 plus $30 shipping And I won a 4 pack of lessers ( Worked out for them) here on Flocknockers

I have 28 DSDs and my hunting partner and I pulled geese from the X field, which had over 200 "normal" decoys and 7 hunters. We were right across the road from them and also had permission in the X field, but they beat us to it that day. We limited before they fired a shot. Were the DSDs worth the money I paid for them? Every penny. And the customer service is second to none. I'll be saving up for some additional DSDs with the ACE technology, but I'll surely keep the old ones, too.

dsd is a company that wants to make the best decoy available on the planet..if you talk to them they are NOT worried about being the biggest decoy company. they know they are not going to sell their decoys to everyone out there hunting. that is not their intentions. but your opinion with ghg and other companies about being able to get decoys that everyone can use makes more sense to who? you? don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with ghg i own a tremendous amount of them. but like what was talked about above, you don't see everyone buying a escalade or a corvette, the kia will get you where you are going...my point is just because you think it doesn't make sense doesn't mean it won't make sense to someone else. just my opinion

Yellowlab04/Salthunter
I am the one who used the ACE decoys in minus 45. The warmest temps during my trip were minus 10. The plastic did stiffen a bit but I did not bag them and thru them in the back of my truck with zero problems. I was questioning my sanity and running around the decoys to stay warm. Oh and Salt, I did kill birds. If anyone has questions just shoot me a PM.

honkerbonker, I totally understand where you're coming from. Consider a few things, though: the only way to lower our costs would be to take our production to China and at that point, there is no guarantee that a DSD would be any different or any better than all the other decoys currently available (they're all made in China). So then you've added just one more choice to an already large market selection of production decoys with no real "stand-out" in effectiveness, and removed the one and only choice of decoys made with all the materials, resources, and quality control available to us here in the US.
The guys that are running DSD's absolutely love the fact that not everyone is willing to get them- that's a small part of what makes our decoys so effective. Some of these guys are actually mad at us for making them out of a new material that doesn't require bagging, thinking that more guys will use them that wouldn't before.

Put all the ACE in my lane and we will see if they live up to the hype!

I will say this about DSD, after hunting over mounts(stuffers) for the last 20 yrs the DSDs are almost as good!

DAVE SMITH I appreciate you coming on a open forum and taking the time to express your thoughts and opinions. As I have mentioned in each of my post I think your decoys are amazing and respect the product that you put out. It's better understood now why your price margin is set were your at. I think it's great that your based out of the state's and your able to make a product right here in the USA. I think it goes without saying that I wish the midwest got to see more of your product. Love the NEW "ACE" decoy and much respect to DS company and product...

Well Aaron, if you and I can't damage the ACE decoys then nobody can. I'm looking forward to putting them to our test next season. I sure hope they can withstand it!

That's why all my new decoys will be bought from you Dave.

I'm selling all the GHG I own.

I'll take a quality product made in my home state anytime. I can pick up the phone and talk to Dave or Brad about any problem I might have, and have it taken care of that day.
Just those two things are worth the extra cost to me.

Lujack is probably more concerned about me blasting his DSDs (which BTW, I have never done).
